North Salem resident Daniel Sarnoff, who served the Village of Mamaroneck for 14 years, died suddenly on Thursday, May 23, village officials announced.

More details about Sarnoff's death, as well as his age, were not released.

A graduate of SUNY Brockport who earned a bachelor's degree in political science and a master's degree in public administration, Sarnoff was hired as the Assistant Village Manager in January 2010 and was eventually promoted to Deputy Village Manager in December 2022.

He also served as interim Village Manager during times of transition.

Before his service in Mamaroneck, Sarnoff also spent nine years working for the village of Scarsdale.

Village of Mamaroneck Mayor Sharon Torres said Sarnoff would be remembered fondly.

"Daniel was an honest, patient, witty, extremely knowledgeable, individual," Torres said in a statement, adding, "He was highly respected by Mayors, Trustees, and colleagues as well as residents alike. He will be greatly missed.”

Flags in the village will be flown at half-staff in Sarnoff's honor, officials said.
